The Recording Process
4 Basic Steps
The majority of our projects are a release-quality recording. You can expect your product to be similar in quality to a record store product, suitable for radio airplay and marketing to the public.
1. Laying down the basic tracks
This is when we record the rhythm and chord instruments. We spend a fair amount of time setting up, adjusting microphones, mike placement, getting the best sound quality of each instrument and finally, getting the performance done to the satisfaction of the musicians and the producer.
2. Overdubbing
Additional music components are added at this stage – things such as lead vocals, background vocals, strings, percussion, guitar solos, etc.
3. Mixdown
After all the parts have been recorded, the mixdown process blends each sound with the others, resulting in a smooth-sounding recording.
4. Mastering
Perhaps the most important step! Songs are put in the correct timing and sequence, and overall volumes, tones and dynamics are balanced. Professional mastering means you are getting the best product possible.
