Jerome Skinner
With over 25 years’ experience as an artist and musician, Jerome Skinner lets his passion show through his talents and abilities unlike many you’ve seen before.
Born and raised in the beautiful province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, Jerome grew up near the shoreline, and was obviously influenced by the vast landscape and scenery that the province has to offer. Music has been a part of his life since he can remember, and his love of painting developed over time of being self-taught and perfecting the craft with each new project.
All who know Jerome know that his friendly demeanor invites everyone who encounters him into the world of a man who loves the things around him most of all. That being his family, his home, and the tools he uses to express himself best – his music and art.
In 2009, Jerome recorded his first album with Sweet Music Studios in Springdale, NL. Under the direction of producer Devin Robinson, Jerome featured twelve original songs he’d written over the past number of years with each song telling a story – some about the world around us, and more specifically the Newfoundland culture and heritage. Others, such as “My Children’s Eyes” tell the story of a father leaving home and facing the difficulties of saying good-bye to his children for extended periods of time – a reality for many from the province Jerome calls home, when it comes to employment outside the province.
The debut single and title track of the album is a powerful anthem that has become a tribute to our Canadian Military, and men and women all over the world who are involved in forms of combat. “Young Soldier Boy” paints a mental picture that is sure to tug at the heart strings of all who listen to it.
Jerome’s art is not only visually stunning, but also emotionally sensitive. An image of a child captured brilliantly with a smile on their face represents the happiness felt by the simple things in life. An old motor boat left on a beach, no longer needed after the catastrophic downturn in the fishing industry represents the hardship and trials that are all too real for many Newfoundlanders even today.
His latest undertaking is a form of “rock art” with beautiful landscapes and images carved and painted onto pieces of “the Rock”, Newfoundland and Labrador.
